Total duration: Approximately 2 hours | Break: 15 minutes
Rationale and Scope
The proposed workshop builds on experience gained through participatory processes developed within the Horizon Europe Co-creating Coexistence (COCO)
(https://cocoproject.eu/; https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101181958).
The COCO project focuses on emerging technologies that address human–bear conflict and promote sustainable human–bear coexistence. This webinar aims to bring together practitioners, advisors, researchers, and stakeholders to reflect on how such technologies can be effectively co-created, assessed, and applied in real-world contexts.
Workshop Structure
The webinar is structured in two cycles:
Cycle 1 – Knowledge Sharing
Participants will be introduced to:
Key findings from a scientific and grey literature review on emerging coexistence technologies.
Cycle 2 – Participatory Assessment
Through participatory methods, participants will be invited to assess and discuss a typology of emerging coexistence technologies, based on criteria such as:
User group,
Functionality,
Scale,
Technology Readiness Level (TRL).
The discussion will also explore key utility factors, including:
Perceived and actual effectiveness,
Affordability,
Accessibility,
Interoperability,
Socio-cultural acceptance.
Expected Outcomes
Collective insights into the potential and limitations of emerging technologies for Large Carnivore conservation.
Contribution to a participatory assessment of coexistence technologies.
Participants will receive a summary report including presentations and consolidated assessments.
Overall Ambition
The overarching ambition of this webinar is to demonstrate how emerging technologies can be utilized by local communities to foster coexistence between humans and Large Carnivore, grounded in participatory approaches and real user needs.
